President Charles A. Fowler

Welcome to Carson-Newman University, an exceptional Christian university located in the Appalachian Mountains of East Tennessee. As one of the top Christian colleges in the Southeast, we attract around 3,000 students to our undergraduate and graduate programs of study.

Carson-Newman was founded in 1851 for the purpose of providing a distinctively Christ-centered education in service to the Church and the marketplace. Carson-Newman has built a strong reputation as a Baptist-affiliated University that cares deeply for our students, builds intentional community, and offers rigorous academic programs that equip our students for graduate school and for their careers.

Since becoming President in the summer of 2019, the Carson-Newman family has been my home. We have spent 16 months developing a five-year strategic plan called Acorns to Oaks: Pursuing God’s Preferred Future. It is a bold plan that adds several new academic programs, calls for new and renovated facilities, builds on great athletic tradition with new sports and expanded facilities, and it prioritizes people over projects by recommitting ourselves to serve our students with Christ-centered excellence while supporting our stellar teaching faculty and staff well.

God is at work at Carson-Newman. He is calling us into a future that will advance His Kingdom through equipping students to reach their highest potential and become educated citizens and worldwide servant leaders. The world has never needed Carson-Newman graduates more than now. We are thrilled that God is drawing students to us who will be difference-makers in their families, communities, and churches through their service. It’s a great time to be a Carson-Newman Eagle!

Soli Deo Gloria,
